Tambo Amazonico Lodge and

Go to the encounter of the great rivers and the amazing biodiversity found at the "gateway" of one of Peru's largest natural reserves. Explore the moist tropical forest, the rivers and the oxbow lakes; sense the undisturbed nature in its major splendor.

Itinerary

Day 01: Iquitos / Nauta / Tambo Amazonico Lodge (L-D)

  • Meet and greet at the airport from where you will be transferred to our operations office in Iquitos (you will briefly sightsee the tourist highlights of Iquitos along the way).

  • Transfer to Nauta town’s river wharf (approximately 62 miles SW /2 hours from Iquitos) to start the boat trip to our Tambo Amazonico Lodge.

  • Box lunch onboard.

  • Navigate down the Marañon River and pass the confluence with the Ucayali River, where the Amazon River is born, continuing to the Yarapa River where the lodge is located (2 and a half hours approximately).

  • Panoramic view of the Amazon River formation from the observation tower in the Grau village.

  • Arrival to the Tambo Amazonico Lodge (75Km. SW of Iquitos). The lodge is within a 11-sq.mile private protected area, next to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve "outer" or "buffer zone".

  • Walk or canoe ride to identify the Yarapa Watershed ecosystems.

  • Dinner at Tambo Amazonico.

  • Overnight.

Day 02: Tambo Amazonico Lodge (B-L-D)

  • Birdwatching and pink dolphins spotting on the Yarapa river mouth.

  • Breakfast at Tambo Amazonico.

  • Jungle trekking to see the tree diversity, medicinal plants and animals mimetizing with branches and leaves.

  • See the “lick” tree where parrots and macaws gather daily at certain time.

  • Lunch at Tambo Amazonico.

  • Canoe ride in the afternoon to one of the beautiful oxbow lakes to see fauna and flora on its shores, among these the spectacular Victoria Regia water lilly whose floating leaf surpasses 4 feet in diameter.

  • Evening search for caimans.

  • Dinner.

  • Overnight.

Day 03: Tambo Amazonico Lodge (B-L-D)

  • Breakfast in the lodge.

  • Eco-cultural visit to the Jaldar river community where you can see and buy handicrafts made by the local artisans using materials found in nature.

  • Lunch at the lodge.

  • Fishing excursion to one of the nearby oxbow lakes.

  • Dinner (you could ask the cook to prepare what you may have fished).

  • Overnight.

Day 04: Tambo Amazonico Lodge (B-L-D)

  • Breakfast at Tambo Amazonico

  • Trekking on jungle trails.

  • Spot species of fauna found in the area (monkeys, birds, reptiles) as well as diverse insects, plants and trees.

  • Box Lunch.

  • Boat trip to the Uvos oxbow lake in the afternoon.

  • Dinner.

  • Overnight.

Day 05: Tambo Amazonico Lodge / Nauta / Iquitos (B)

  • Breakfast at Tambo Amazonico Lodge

  • Return by boat to Nauta navigating on the Amazon and Marañon rivers. Overland return to Iquitos.

  • Transfer to your hotel in Iquitos or to the airport at a convenient time to board your flight.
